Fourth of July

Oh no! I just realized that Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest takes place every year on the Fourth of July. But I can’t be there and at the International Barbershop Competition in Denver at the same time!

It just won’t be the same to go to the qualifying event in Shea Stadium on June 3 instead. For one thing, I’m going to miss “Tsunami” Kobayashi, who set the current world record of eating 53 3/4 hot dogs in 12 minutes. Damn!

Sometimes you get the bear and sometimes the bear gets you…
I love YouTube, and thought I’d check out Kobayashi, mainly to see that trademark body wiggle of his. What I got as a first hit was this:

Not much wiggling there, but all the more hot dogs… Enjoy! ;)

Haha, that is such an awesome video. I had heard about Kobayashi vs. the bear (poor Kobayashi), but I’m so glad that YouTube exists and lets us _see_ such things. :)

My favorite line: “The bear is scooping them up, but obviously it’s got a very different approach to eating. … [It]’s just a natural eating machine.”

Ah, thanks! I have to admit, I actually expected that wiggle to be a bit more… subtle… ;)

Yeah, that’s what you get when you mess with an Alaskan. Smackdown!!

Though also: eeew. It’s an improvement over, say, links to images of rectal prolapse, but still . . .

Oooh, on the topic of disturbing links: you should have a contest for links to images of Easter baskets gone wrong!

Mmmph, the Easter links contest didn’t catch. Regardless, I can’t resist sharing this one:
